Signs You Need Emergency Dental Care

Emergency dental care is something that you may need at some point in your life. However, often when people need emergency dental care, they may second-guess themselves and wonder if they truly need it. If you're wondering about the major signs that you need emergency dental care, here are a few to consider.

Tooth Knockout

If you have a tooth that is knocked out, it's time to visit your dentist. Getting to your dentist as quickly as possible can mean the difference between you keeping the tooth and losing it. A tooth that is knocked out will spew a lot of blood.

Aside from the fact that you need to stem this flood of blood immediately, delaying emergency care can mean you will need more invasive procedures to save the tooth. The more invasive the procedure, the more expensive the treatment will be.

Tooth Abscess

You may not realize that you have an abscess, but if it gets worse, you will notice. Abscesses can leave your face completely swollen. This can make it difficult for you to do simple things such as talk, eat or drink.

An abscessed tooth can also make it difficult for you to breathe, and this can become dangerous. The infection from an abscessed tooth can spread into your bloodstream, and this is never good.

You need to go to your dentist for an examination. Your dentist will give you antibiotics to pull down the swelling. If you need an extraction or any other form of dental care to deal with the tooth, it will have to be done once the infection is put under control.

Excessive Bleeding

If your tooth is knocked out in any way, it will start bleeding. Additionally, if you have gum disease, you will notice some bleeding when you brush or floss. All these are normal circumstances under which you can expect to have bleeding gums.

If your gums start bleeding without any obvious signs as to why this is happening and it won't stop, something is severely wrong. If you're also having pain and swelling along with the bleeding, you must see a dentist immediately.

Get Emergency Care

The signs that you need emergency dental care are hard to miss. Once you notice any of the signs that have been talked about here, then it's time to get to the dentist as soon as you can before things get worse.

Providing Children With Dental Knowledge

When my three children were young, they were all excited to go to the dentist. The dentist's office was great fun with a large fish tank and a variety of puzzle toys in the waiting room. I liked the pediatric dental office so much that I jumped at the chance when I was offered a receptionist job. Many of the children who came to see the dentist were not nearly as happy as my children. Most kids were scared and anxious, and I learned fairly quickly that the children were worried because they had no idea what to expect. The dentist at the office provided me with a set of dental tools that I could show to the children. I explained how each of the devices worked. This eased the fears, and I started this blog so parents could share dental information with their children before dental visits.
