Some Information About Cosmetic Dentistry Options

Posted on: 14 March 2023

Cosmetic dentistry involves treatments intended to help improve the look of someone's smile. In some cases, cosmetic dentistry only corrects the looks of the patient's teeth, such as when someone has their teeth whitened. Then, there are also times when cosmetic dentistry involves a treatment that also helps to improve the proper functioning of the patient's teeth. For example, someone may want to have a crown put on a tooth because it has a chip. While they may want to hide the chip, the crown will also add strength to the damaged tooth and decrease the chances of a cavity or further breakage at the same time.

This article will go over some different cosmetic dental treatments many patients have done, with the focus being on the cosmetic benefits the treatments bring.

Professional teeth whitening

There are plenty of products you can purchase in your local pharmacy, or even in grocery stores, that you can use at home to whiten your teeth. However, there are good reasons for you to pass by those items and leave them sitting on the shelves where you found them. Instead, you should go to the dentist and have your teeth whitened there. Some of the advantages of having your teeth whitened at the dentist's office include:

  • You won't waste your money and not even see a difference in your teeth
  • You won't have to go through confusing directions
  • You won't have to spend a huge amount of time at home with uncomfortable and ill-fitting appliances in your mouth
  • You won't run the risk of causing damage to your teeth
  • You won't take the chance of white calcium spots showing up on the front of your teeth

When you have your teeth whitened in the office, your teeth will be examined first, to make sure the right teeth whitening method is used. Also, the professional teeth whitening treatment done in the dentist's office will be an accelerated one, so you will get the results you want, much sooner. You will also have peace of mind knowing that your teeth aren't going to be put in harm's way during the process. Once you've had your teeth professionally whitened, you can smile knowing your smile looks much nicer.

Teeth straightening

When your teeth are severely crooked, it can cause issues with the way they function. Very crooked teeth can affect the way you eat and even the way you speak. However, they also affect your smile and the way you feel about your smile. Your teeth don't have to be significantly crooked for you to feel self-conscious about your smile. If you have slight crookedness, then you may still be very interested in having them straightened for cosmetic purposes. A couple of options you may have can include getting braces or wearing clear aligners. Both options can lead you to your goal of having straight teeth you can feel proud of.

Porcelain veneers

Porcelain veneers can be used to help improve many issues someone may be having with their teeth. For one thing, not all teeth can be whitened to a degree where they look great. If your teeth need more help than whitening can offer, then know that porcelain veneers can be put on your teeth to make them permanently look whiter. Also, porcelain veneers can help with things like teeth of varying lengths, teeth with chips, teeth with gaps between them, and more.

Providing Children With Dental Knowledge

When my three children were young, they were all excited to go to the dentist. The dentist's office was great fun with a large fish tank and a variety of puzzle toys in the waiting room. I liked the pediatric dental office so much that I jumped at the chance when I was offered a receptionist job. Many of the children who came to see the dentist were not nearly as happy as my children. Most kids were scared and anxious, and I learned fairly quickly that the children were worried because they had no idea what to expect. The dentist at the office provided me with a set of dental tools that I could show to the children. I explained how each of the devices worked. This eased the fears, and I started this blog so parents could share dental information with their children before dental visits.
