Your teeth are extremely important to your well-being for many reasons. Your teeth can dictate how you feel about yourself, how you look to others, how you speak, how you eat and even how overall healthy you are. Here are some of the common questions some people have about their teeth, as well as the answers to those questions:
Can chewing ice really chip your teeth? If you have a habit of chewing on crushed ice, then it is unlikely that you will break or chip your teeth on it. Crushed ice will start melting the moment it goes in your mouth. Also, the smaller size will increase the likeliness of the pieces moving to the center of your teeth when you chew on it. However, if you have a habit of chewing on larger pieces of ice, then it can chip or break your teeth. You will be biting down on the ice while it is solid and biting down on it with the points and edges of your teeth, increasing the chance of tooth damage.
Is chewing gum really good for your teeth? Yes and no. If you chew gum that contains sugar, then you aren't doing your teeth any favors. The sugars from the gum will stick to the surfaces of your teeth just as the sugars from candies and other sweets will. This only increases your chance of getting cavities, experiencing bad breath and more. Chewing sugar free gum can help your teeth stay healthier and whiter because it can pull food particles, bacteria and other germs off of the surfaces of your teeth, preventing some of those issues.
How do you know you grind your teeth if you do it when you are sleeping? Many people who grind their teeth while they are sleeping learn about it from their partner who hears them doing it. If you don't have a partner, then you will need to watch for other signs to realize you are grinding your teeth. Some of the signs include headaches upon wakening, jaw pain, tooth sensitivity, a stiff jaw when waking up and/or the premature wearing of your teeth.
