2 Dental Rinses To Help Reduce Tooth Sensitivity During Pregnancy

Posted on: 4 May 2016

Pregnancy can cause a number of changes to your body. This includes an increase in aches and pains caused by lower back pain. While this pain is more common and frequently talked about, pregnancy can also cause dental pain. During pregnancy, the smallest things can cause your teeth to ache and feel painful. This increased tooth sensitivity is caused by the changes in your hormonal levels. While your tooth sensitivity is not permanent, it can be difficult to deal with this constant discomfort for months at a time. Luckily, there are a few dental rinses that you can use to help reduce tooth sensitivity during your pregnancy.

Ginseng Root Rinse

Ginseng root is considered to be a natural pain reliever. The plant is incorporated into teas and soups in order to treat internal pain. A ginseng root rinse can be created using ginseng powder. The powder form of the plant is often available in health food stores. Add a few spoonfuls of the powder into a medium sized bowl and pour hot water over the powder. Continue to pour the water until the bowl is half-way filled up. Allow the powder to soak and dissolve in the hot water. Wait for the mixture to cool, and then use the rinse to cleanse your mouth. Soak your gums and teeth in the mixture for a few minutes before rinsing. Use the ginseng root rinse in the evening and morning in order to reduce tooth sensitivity.

Nutmeg Rinse

Nutmeg is often a staple spice in holiday recipes and meals. However, the spice has long been incorporated into cough and flu medicines in order to treat pain relief. The spice is also used in topical treatments designed to treat external aches and pains. Nutmeg can be transformed into a simple oral rinse to soothe your tooth sensitivity. Add a spoonful of nutmeg powder to a cup and add water to the mixture. Use a spoon to stir the mixture for a few minutes until it is thoroughly blended. Allow the nutmeg mixture to sit for a few minutes. Use the rinse to coat your gums and teeth. After a few minutes, rinse with warm water and repeat this process.

Tooth sensitivity will come and go throughout your pregnancy. If you are unprepared, this can cause an extreme amount of frustration and discomfort. Therefore, use these dental rinses to help alleviate some of that pain.

Providing Children With Dental Knowledge

When my three children were young, they were all excited to go to the dentist. The dentist's office was great fun with a large fish tank and a variety of puzzle toys in the waiting room. I liked the pediatric dental office so much that I jumped at the chance when I was offered a receptionist job. Many of the children who came to see the dentist were not nearly as happy as my children. Most kids were scared and anxious, and I learned fairly quickly that the children were worried because they had no idea what to expect. The dentist at the office provided me with a set of dental tools that I could show to the children. I explained how each of the devices worked. This eased the fears, and I started this blog so parents could share dental information with their children before dental visits.
