3 Ways Cosmetic Dentistry Can Make You Look Younger Without Surgery

Posted on: 4 November 2015

Your teeth and your smile can do a lot to give you a more youthful appearance. There are many dental surgeries that can help, but there are also many non-surgical dental options. These non-surgical options can help to keep your face and facial structure more youthful.

1. Adding Length and Thickness to Teeth

Using veneers, crowns, or both, a dentist can add length and thickness to your teeth. Slightly lengthened teeth are a sign of youth. Lengthened teeth allow your smile to show more readily and with less gum involved.

Many people grind their teeth down over time and never realize that as their teeth shorten, so does the look of their face, especially around the mouth and jawline. Having your teeth thickened can also help to combat a flat or sunken facial structure.

2. Smoothing Out Wrinkles

Veneers can smooth out wrinkles that develop around the upper lip. They do this by pushing against and smoothing out the skin from behind the areas where those wrinkles develop. They can also do the same for wrinkles around the bottom lip as well. However, you will need veneers specifically made for this purpose.

3. Adding Fullness to Lips

As you age, your collagen production lowers, which causes your lips to lose some of their fullness. In addition, you also lose some density in your teeth. Since your teeth also serve to push out and support your lips, losing that tooth density is just as bad as lower collagen production.

A thicker veneer can help push against your lips to give them a fuller look. Some people have teeth that curve in ways that can push the lips into undesirable configurations. Tooth sculpting methods or braces can help deal with that.

Speak to a Cosmetic Dentist About What's Possible

There are a lot of procedures out there for you to take advantage of. You may need a combination of techniques to achieve the look you're looking for. You also need to choose a cosmetic dentist (such as Patrick M Pitts) with a lot of experience. Some procedures require a lot of expertise, such as the shaping of a thick veneer.

Without surgery or facial injections, you can literally transform your face for a more youthful appearance. Just remember to discuss precisely what it is you want with a cosmetic dentist. He or she can let you know what's possible, or if you need dental work before you can consider cosmetic options.

Providing Children With Dental Knowledge

When my three children were young, they were all excited to go to the dentist. The dentist's office was great fun with a large fish tank and a variety of puzzle toys in the waiting room. I liked the pediatric dental office so much that I jumped at the chance when I was offered a receptionist job. Many of the children who came to see the dentist were not nearly as happy as my children. Most kids were scared and anxious, and I learned fairly quickly that the children were worried because they had no idea what to expect. The dentist at the office provided me with a set of dental tools that I could show to the children. I explained how each of the devices worked. This eased the fears, and I started this blog so parents could share dental information with their children before dental visits.
