4 Beneficial Ways To Enhance The Look Of Your Teeth

Posted on: 29 December 2014

Having a good smile is important, not only for your looks, but for your confidence. In order to have a great set of teeth, these steps can be taken.

Get Dental Implants

If you have teeth missing in your mouth, smiling may not be enjoyable. You can change this, however, by getting dental implants put in your mouth by a cosmetic dentist. Implants feel and look like real teeth, so you don't have to worry about people pointing them out when you smile.

These implants not only improve your smile, but they help you speak and talk normally. They also give your jawline and cheekbones the correct shape, so that they don't sag. Some implants are designed to last for up to 40 years, depending on how well you take care of them over the years.  Just like with regular teeth, you need to brush and floss them on a regular basis.

Quit Smoking

If you smoke, one of the easiest ways to improve your teeth is to simply quit smoking. When you do this, smoke is no longer able to stain your teeth and make them turn yellow. Quitting smoking also helps improve your gum health, and makes your mouth more capable of fighting off diseases.

An effective way to quit smoking is to undergo behavioral therapy. This type of therapy helps you identify certain smoking triggers, whether it's stress or being around certain people. Nicotine replacement therapy is also effective. This therapy involves using nicotine gum, inhalers or patches to help satisfy your cravings.

Get a Bonding Procedure Done

Going through life with chipped teeth can stress you out. For this problem, you can take advantage of a procedure called bonding. This is where a composite resin material is molded around your chipped tooth, making it whole again.

After the resin material has been formed around your tooth correctly, it's hardened with a UV light. The material is then polished to match the color of the rest of the teeth in your mouth. That way, you don't have to worry about the resin material sticking out like a sore thumb.

Eat Healthy Foods for Your Teeth

It may sound simple, but you can actually better your teeth by eating certain foods. If you are looking to whiten your teeth, you can consume strawberries. These contain malic acid, an acid that will eat away at the yellow stains on your teeth.

If you are just looking to clean your teeth, you can eat cheese. Cheese helps increase the production of saliva in your mouth, which cleans your mouth to prevent plaque from hardening. Spinach leaves are also great for cleaning your teeth, as they require a lot of chewing. The chewing takes away plaque on the surface of your teeth.

Teeth are not always going to be in pristine condition. This doesn't mean you can restore your teeth, which is possible when you consider the steps above.

Providing Children With Dental Knowledge

When my three children were young, they were all excited to go to the dentist. The dentist's office was great fun with a large fish tank and a variety of puzzle toys in the waiting room. I liked the pediatric dental office so much that I jumped at the chance when I was offered a receptionist job. Many of the children who came to see the dentist were not nearly as happy as my children. Most kids were scared and anxious, and I learned fairly quickly that the children were worried because they had no idea what to expect. The dentist at the office provided me with a set of dental tools that I could show to the children. I explained how each of the devices worked. This eased the fears, and I started this blog so parents could share dental information with their children before dental visits.
